Rubio Tells Modi US Will Counter Iran’s Energy Market Influence

(MENAFN) Marco Rubio told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday that the United States will not allow Iran to “hold the global energy market hostage,” during high-level talks in India.

According to a statement from the US State Department, Rubio emphasized that the US-India partnership is strategically important, built on shared democratic values, expanding economic ties, and close relations between President Donald Trump and Modi.

The statement said Rubio also delivered a formal invitation from Trump for Modi to visit the White House, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed developments in the Middle East, with particular attention to energy security and regional stability amid ongoing tensions involving Iran.

Rubio said US energy exports could help diversify India’s supply sources and reduce reliance on volatile markets, reinforcing Washington’s position on global energy resilience.

The talks come as India has reportedly resumed limited oil imports from Iran after a long suspension, following shifts in sanctions enforcement and changing regional dynamics tied to the broader conflict.

Both sides also agreed to expand cooperation in trade, defense, and emerging technologies, signaling continued deepening of strategic ties between Washington and New Delhi.
